Obit for John Don Carlos: Atlantic Iowa - 1912
"John Don Carlos died in his home at 907 Chestnut St., Atlantic, Iowa after a long illness. He had been in failing health for the past 2 to 3 years and four weeks before his death was taken ill with dysentery which caused his death. He was almost 80 years old at the time of his death.
In 1844 his parents moved to Davis Co. Iowa where he married Lacy Sawyer on March 24, 1853. They had a large celebration in honor of their Golden Anniversary in that city nine years ago.
In 1871 they moved to Adel, Iowa and in 1880 to Maryville, Missouri and then to Greenfield, Iowa in 1881 where they lived for several years before moving to Lincoln, Nebraska. After a short stay there they moved to Atlantic, Iowa where they remained.
Nine children were born to John and Lacy Don Carlos with the oldest, Americus and Martha Ellen dieing in infancy. John was vitally interested in his children and enjoyed having them with him. He was a faithful and indulgent husband and was generous almost to a fault with family and friends. His religious attitude was that of a quiet yet staunch defender of Christianity and the church. He was well versed in the scriptures and a member of the Methodist Church and became a member of the Masonic Lodge, Franklin Lodge #14, Bloomfield, Iowa on September 18, 1858."
